Responsible for conducting state-of-the-art Geomatics research integrating GIS, GPS, visualization, and imagery for disaster management, preparedness and response. Project management in emergency management low cost GPS vehicle tracking, Open Source GIS for emergency managers, GIS database design for emergency management, large database development for Digital Elevation Model of Eastern NC for super-computer regional flood modeling, next generation Emergency Operations Center (EOC) concepts, collaborative computer environments for NC emergency management including wiki, teleconferencing, and shared data environments, 360-degree imaging for disaster response and damage assessment, remote sensing analysis for disaster response, community GIS and remote sensing for disaster response, etc. Advising graduate students, teaching Geomatics courses, and grant proposal preparation.


PREVIOUS RESPONSIBILITIES AT INTERNATIONAL SPACE UNIVERSITY:
Responsible for teaching in Masters of Space Studies (3 years in Strasbourg, France) and Summer Session programs (16 years around the world), Summer of 1999: Summer Session Program Associate Program Director for Academic Affairs, Satellite Applications Department Chair, teaching core lecture series, and invitations for advanced and student/faculty workshop visiting lecturers, budgets, etc. Teaching and advising graduate students, conducting research and working with the ISU network of 24 affiliate campuses around the world. The ISU offers a Masters of Space Studies in Strasbourg, as well as a 10-week summer program that is presented to approximately 125 graduate-level students from 20–30 countries.


PREVIOUS RESPONSIBILITIES AT RUTGERS UNIVERSITY:
Responsible for establishment and day-to-day operation of three computer laboratories, research project management and liaison with other GIS/RS users on campus and regionally, establishment and operation of comprehensive GIS and remote sensing short course training program, grant writing, GRASS software development, Global GIS database development project director, project management for several projects in the areas of GIS, remote sensing, software development, and government contracts, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, and advising graduate students, co-chair, RUGIS inter-campus GIS working group.


CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Applications of geomatics (remote sensing, GIS, GPS, photogrammetry, and related non-destructive technologies) for regional environmental and cultural resource assessment; advanced technologies for disaster planning, mitigation, and response; site location and environmental analysis by use of computer enhanced satellite and airborne digital imagery analysis; regional environmental, wildlife and archaeological settlement and site location models using Geographic Information Systems; regional and global data creation and analysis; database management and analysis; international environmental training programs; advanced techniques of GIS, GPS, and remote sensing; integration of Quick Time Virtual Reality (QTVR) and IPIX visualization technologies with GIS; innovative applications of distance education for geomatics.
